Shooting a tournament floor

Notes on photographing an event where the action is a face, not a hand.

Players at lit stations during a match, seen from behind the setups.

Esports photography is harder than it looks, because the sport is mostly people sitting still. The moment worth having is almost never the input - it is the reaction a half-second after it.

Venues rarely help. Rooms are dark, screens are the brightest thing in frame, and the light that makes a stage look good on stream is the light that makes a photograph difficult.

The approach here leans into it rather than fighting it: hard colour, deep shadow, and the screen used as a light source instead of an obstacle.
