The rules for the site
and the tournaments
What you agree to by using this site, and what applies when you enter a UGCZA event.
Effective [EFFECTIVE DATE]. These are the terms currently in force.
Agreeing to these terms
Using this site means you accept these terms. Entering a UGCZA event means you accept these terms and that event’s own published rules. If you do not accept them, do not use the site and do not enter.
We change these terms from time to time. The date above is the version in force, and the version in force on the day you enter an event is the one that governs that event.
Who we are
UGCZA (Ultimate Gaming Championships South Africa) is run by [REGISTERED ENTITY NAME], registration number [REGISTRATION NUMBER], a company registered in South Africa at 4 Bolton Rd, Parkwood, Johannesburg, 2192. Email info@themagicpixel.co.za, phone +27 76 934 1288.
This is the same entity named in the privacy notice, and "we", "us" and "UGCZA" in these terms mean it.
Using this site
You are welcome to read the site, link to it, and quote it with attribution. You may not:
- scrape, harvest or systematically copy the site or its images;
- interfere with the site, or try to reach parts of it that are not public;
- present yourself as UGCZA, or as speaking for it;
- use the contact form to send bulk, unsolicited or automated messages.
We can block access if you do any of that. The site is provided as it is: we work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise that it always will be.
Tournament participation
Every UGCZA bracket runs on start.gg. Entry, seeding, check-in and results are handled there, under your own account and start.gg’s terms.
The specifics of an event are published on that event’s start.gg page before entries open - the game, the format and ruleset, the entry fee if there is one, the prize breakdown, the venue, the dates and the check-in window. Those published details form part of these terms for that event. What follows applies to all of them:
- Eligibility. You must meet whatever the event page states, including any region or residency requirement. Entrants under 18 need a parent or guardian’s written consent before entering.
- Entry and check-in. Register on start.gg and check in during the published window. If you miss check-in, start.gg removes you from the bracket automatically. That is the platform’s behaviour and we cannot reverse it.
- Fees and refunds. Where an event charges to enter, the event page states the fee and the refund position before entries open. If we cancel an event outright, entry fees are refunded.
- Changes and cancellation. We may change the format, the schedule or the venue, or cancel an event, where we reasonably have to. We announce it in Discord and on the event page as early as we can.
- Disputes. Raise a dispute with a tournament organiser at the event, while the set is still live wherever possible. The head tournament organiser’s decision on a match is final.
- Disqualification. We may disqualify an entrant for cheating, modified hardware, match-fixing, or a breach of the code of conduct below.
- Prizes. Prizes are announced per event and awarded on final standings. You must give us what we reasonably need in order to pay you. Any tax on a prize is the winner’s own.
Code of conduct
This applies in the venue, in the bracket and in the UGCZA Discord. The short version is on the tournament info page: play hard, don’t be a problem. In full:
- no harassment, slurs or targeted abuse, of anyone, anywhere we operate;
- no cheating, modified hardware or match-fixing;
- follow the instructions of staff and tournament organisers;
- treat the venue and the equipment as somebody else’s property, because it is.
Depending on how serious it is, a breach can mean a warning, disqualification, removal from the venue, or a ban from future events. Anything criminal is a matter for the venue and the police, and we will assist them.
Filming and photography
We record our events. Photographs, video and audio are captured in the venue, matches are streamed, and the footage is published and archived afterwards.
By entering an event, or by going into an area signposted as being filmed, you agree that UGCZA may record you and may use that recording - including your name, your tag, your image, your voice and your match performance - to broadcast, promote and archive the event and UGCZA’s work, in any medium, without a time limit and without a fee.
This is a licence to use the footage, not a transfer of your rights. You keep everything you are otherwise entitled to, and we will not present you as endorsing a product or a brand without asking you separately.
Under 18s. A parent or guardian must give written consent before an entrant under 18 is filmed or photographed, and that consent is part of entering. This is what POPIA sections 34 and 35 require, and we treat it as a condition of entry rather than a formality.
Tell a member of staff if you would rather not be filmed and we will do what we reasonably can, although we cannot promise to keep you out of wide shots of a public room. If you appear in something that is already published and you want it removed, write to info@themagicpixel.co.za and we will consider it properly.
Intellectual property
The UGCZA name, the logo, the brand assets, this site’s design, its text and its photographs belong to [REGISTERED ENTITY NAME] or are licensed to it. Assets offered on the press kit may be used on the terms stated there.
Game titles, publisher logos and partner marks belong to their owners and appear here with permission or as fair dealing for reporting. Do not use our marks in a way that suggests we endorse, supply or are involved in something we are not.
Services we don’t control
Brackets run on start.gg. Community runs on Discord. Video is on YouTube. We are also on Instagram, Twitch and X. Each of those has its own terms and its own privacy policy, your use of them is between you and them, and a link from us is not an endorsement. We are not responsible for what those services do, or for what happens if one of them is unavailable.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that South African law does not allow to be limited, including under the Consumer Protection Act, and nothing excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that:
- the site is provided as it is, and we do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, complete or current;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data or opportunity;
- attending an event is at your own risk so far as the law allows, and equipment you bring is your own responsibility unless we damaged it;
- where we are liable in connection with an event, our liability is limited to what you paid to enter it.
Governing law
South African law governs these terms and anything arising from them, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
